Cryomilling
Liquid nitrogen, thanks to its very low temperature (-196 °C at environmental pressure), is used for milling such food products as coffee, spices, herbs, cocoa, seeds and nuts, foods that can undergo taste changes and lose some of their aroma during traditional milling. SOL offers technologies, products and services for cryogenic milling of food products that limit the natural increase in temperature during the process which, in turn, creates further problems such as the clogging of the material in the grinder with consequent downtime, results with non-uniform granules, and the development of oxidative reactions that are eliminated by creating an inert atmosphere after the introduction of nitrogen.
The use of SOL liquid nitrogen in cryomilling, thanks to the greater fragility of a highly cool product, makes it possible to mill at higher speeds, increase productivity and significantly save energy.
